Rome en capitales: typographie et architecture rationaliste

Talk by Carlo Vinti (Università di Camerino). Part of Rome en capitales: typographie et architecture rationaliste Summer School .

A project by ECAL – Ecole cantonale d’art de Lausanne organised by Matthieu Cortat (ECAL), Davide Fornari (ECAL), in collaboration with Jonathan Pierini (ISIA, Urbino.

While the history of art and of architecture have long been addressing the relationship of Italian artists and architects with the Fascist regime, in the field of graphic design and typography historians still show reticence on approaching this issue. This talk will try to reposition the 1930s battle between typographic traditionalists and modernists in a political perspective.

Carlo Vinti is a researcher in the field of the History of design and visual communication at the University of Camerino. Since 2015 he is associate editor of Ais/Design Storia e Ricerche, the on-line journal of the Italian association of Design Historians. In 2012, with Giorgio Camuffo and Mario Piazza, he co-curated the 5th edition of the Triennale Design Museum in Milan, TDM5: Grafica Italiana.
