The Sparrow in the Chimney
The close relationship between the Locarno Film Festival and Cineteca Milano continues to strengthen. From October 11 to 14, the Cinema Arlecchino will host Locarno a Milano: four days—one more than the 2023 edition—dedicated to the films of the 77th edition of the historic Swiss festival, presented exclusively for the city and featuring the presence of directors, actors, and guests who will accompany the films from the most important sections.
Locarno a Milano is a project of Cineteca Milano and the Locarno Film Festival, realized with the support of Cinema on the Docks, Fondazione Cariplo, Filmidee, Regione Lombardia, Comune di Milano, Ministero della Cultura, and partnered with WindeX, Istituto Svizzero, and the Embassy of the Republic of Lithuania.
Among the films from the main section, comes the Swiss film The Sparrow in the Chimney (Der Spatz im Kamin), a feature film that explores the difficult relationship between two sisters during a family gathering with apocalyptic tones.

The Sparrow in the Chimney
by Ramon ZĂĽrcher
2024, 117 min
Karen and Markus live in her parents’ idyllic home. For Markus’ birthday, Jule, Karen’s sister, arrives. The dark memories of their late mother fuel Jule’s rebellious spirit towards her sister. And as the house fills with life, Karen’s unease grows: to make room for the new, the old must be cast aside. After the international success of The Girl and the Spider, the ZĂĽrcher brothers return with a hypnotic work, weaving together actions and psychologies within the domestic space with an almost choreographic precision.
