Swiss Talks #3
RIATTIVAZIONI ALPINE
A New Centrality part 2
Corinna Menn
studioser – Rina Rolli and Tiziano Schürch
Moderation: Federico Tranfa
The presentation of several projects in the Alpine area – a dining building in a protected area on Lake Cauma in the Grisons by Corinna Menn and community outdoor spaces in a village in Ticino designed by studioser – opens up the debate on the new centrality of peripheral places (a theme previously addressed with Jonathan Sergison in 2021), connecting areas threatened by the phenomena of Overtourism with those at risk of abandonment.
Swiss Talks. Architecture VS Territory
Swiss Talks is a series of talks dedicated to the orientations of contemporary architecture in Switzerland, now in its eighth edition.
Three evenings during 2024 are aimed at investigating the intersections between architecture and territory: how can architecture bring out the identities of places? Can architecture affect communities perceptions of their home territories? Can public space be considered “educating”? Can a landscape architect contribute to strengthening the identity of place?
Architects and landscape architects working on spatial issues are involved to try to provide answers-necessarily not definitive- to these questions. To further reinforce the central theme, the city in which the meeting is held is not indifferent to the topic being addressed, but rather conditions its choices.
For this initiative, a request has been made to the CNAPPC for the recognition of 2 professional training credits for architects. Mandatory registration
A project by Istituto Svizzero and CasabellaFormazione, curated by Francesca Chiorino.

Biographies
Corinna Menn is originally from Chur and studied architecture at ETH Zurich, where she graduated in 2000. She worked in Berlin and then spent time studying at the Graduate School of Design at Harvard University in Cambridge, MA. After working for Herzog & de Meuron Architects in Basel, she founded her own architecture studio in 2002. Following the completion of her first buildings in the Grisons, the studio relocated from Chur to Zurich and expanded the scope of its work. The studio’s projects address themes related to alpine, rural, and urban spaces. From the perspective of cultural and material sustainability, the site serves as the starting point and an important creative source for the projects. The context of protected landscapes and cultural assets, along with the construction within existing structures, characterizes both completed and planned projects. The studio’s buildings, often the result of competitions, have received various awards and have been published multiple times, including in the monographic series “Anthologie 11” by Quart-Verlag (2009). After teaching at the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts (2009-2010) and the University of Liechtenstein (2018-2019), Corinna Menn served as a guest professor of architecture and design at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich from 2021 to 2023.
StudioSer was founded by Rina Rolli and Tiziano Schürch in 2019, with offices in Zurich and Lugano. Rina Rolli graduated from ETH with a Master’s in Architecture. In 2019, she was invited to exhibit at the XII International Architecture Biennale in São Paulo. She worked at 2A+P/A architects in Rome and at Studio Sito architects in Zurich. Currently, she works as an assistant to the chair of Jan de Vylder at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich. Additionally, she collaborates with Noël Picco in the collective Piccolli, subverting industrial products to translate them into unusual furniture pieces. Tiziano Schürch graduated from ETH with a master’s in architecture. In 2018, he became an assistant professor at UPC-ETSAB (Barcelona), where he founded the research studio extraordinary_ordinary. In the same year, he joined the archaeological mission at Qasr Shemamok in Mosul, Iraq. He has designed several exhibitions, including the Catalan Pavilion at the Venice Biennale, the exhibition “Living the Mediterranean” at IVAM in Valencia, and the exhibitions “Picasso and the Artist’s Jewels” and “Picasso, the Photographer’s Gaze” at the Picasso Museum in Barcelona. He is currently pursuing a MAS in Spatial Planning at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich.
