I pomeriggi at Istituto Svizzero is a series dedicated to our Fellows. It is an opportunity for the public to learn more about the projects they are working on during this year’s residency.

The event is curated by Gaia Vincensini (Roma Calling 2022/2023).

Monotipo

Visual artist Gaia Vincensini presents an introduction to monoprint on fabric: a printing workshop with limited capacity followed by a convivial gathering.

The first part will take place at La Carrozzeria print shop in Rome. Monotype is Italy’s only original printing technique, invented by Giovanni Benedetto Castiglione around 1648. Printing is done by transferring a drawing from an inked plate onto a sheet of paper using an intaglio press. As the term itself implies, each work is unique as the print is printed in a single copy.
On this occasion, instead of using sheets of paper, participants will be invited to print with oil-based ink on provided clothing and personalise the images individually on in groups.

At the end of the day, the result will be presented at the space Lateral Roma, and a drink will be offered for a convivial moment. The prints will remain in the space for a week, in an environment that will host an open programme. Once the clothes are dry, participants will be able to collect them from April 9.

Gaia Vincensini (1992) lives and works between Geneva and Paris. In 2016 she graduated from HEAD. In her work, she creates narratives that explore the value systems shaping both art and society. She won the Manor and Kiefer Hablitzel I Göhner art awards in 2021 and completed a nine-month residency at the Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris in 2020. Her work has been exhibited at MAMCO and Forde in Geneva, at the Swiss Institute in New York, at Maison d’Art Bernard Anthonioz in Nogent-sur-Marne, at Galleria Martina Simeti in Milan and at FIAC with her gallery Gaudel de Stampa. In Rome she develops a series of works that explores the relationship between contemporary divinities and human beings.
