Day VIII of Doctoral Studies of the Rome Art History Network (RAHN)

Now more than ever, temporary exhibitions saturate museum spaces, influencing contemporary critical debate. Their ephemeral nature allows to develop unique narrative strategies, which focus on issues of identity, being shaped and at the same time influencing art historiography and theory. Studying display devices, the objects themselves and the actors involved makes it possible to delve deep into the peculiarities of a specific culture and society, taking also into account the reception of the phenomenon on the broader public.

This study day aims to reflect on the ephemeral nature of exhibitions with an interdisciplinary approach, working diachronically over a broad time span (16th -21st century). The event is promoted by the Rome Art History Network (RAHN), an international network of art historians with the aim of fostering the exchange between young Italian and foreign researchers, in collaboration with Istituto Svizzero.

The study day is organised by Gloria Antoni (Università di Roma Tre), Matteo Chirumbolo (The Courtauld Institute of Art), Gianluca Petrone (Sapienza Università di Roma), Célia Zuber (Université de Genève, EHESS Paris), with the supervision of Francesca Parrilla (University of Notre Dame, Rome).

The conference will be held in Italian, English and French, and can be followed via web, registration required.
