Istituto Svizzero presents Viaggi nei paraggi, a project conceived and curated by Open City Roma, also in collaboration with the Academy of Denmark and the Archivio Storico Istituto Luce.

Within the section titled Opera Manifesto, posters created by artist Nastasia Meyrat (former fellow at Istituto Svizzero), are hung around the city of Rome, to reflect on the theme of travel. The work will also become an access point to the content taken from the Istituto Luce Archive. Through the QR code on the poster it will be possible to watch short videos on the theme of travel by cruise from the ’20s to the ’70s.

The project, promoted by Roma Culture, is the winner of Estate Romana 2020-2021-2022 curated by the Department of Cultural Activities.

Neither completely wild nor completely domesticated

«The journey I am interested in is the one that concerns the subjects of my works. I try to make them talk and I „become“ them, like it was a sort of performance. The journey is made by representations of bodies in transformation and depicts subjects that conjure up the idea of vulnerability or from the point of view of animal creatures that ’speak‘ to us. The idea of the journey consists of a change of perspective on a specific subject.
Pigeons have a political history of travelling, some of them have been to war, this multitude of characteristics linked to the movement of these birds and the way humans perceive them, makes this subject a rich material to work with».
