Rome en capitales: typographie et architecture rationaliste

Talk by Chiara Barbieri (HKB Bern, Royal College of Arts London). Part of Rome en capitales: typographie et architecture rationaliste Summer School.

A project by ECAL – Ecole cantonale d’art de Lausanne organised by Matthieu Cortat (ECAL), Davide Fornari (ECAL), in collaboration with Jonathan Pierini (ISIA, Urbino).

The presentation employs the Scuola del Libro in Milan, the Studio Boggeri and a number of Fascist propaganda exhibitions and displays as case studies to reach its twofold goal. First, it questions graphic practitioners’ understanding of their own discipline and profession. Second, it seeks to investigate their contributions to the construction of a Fascist imagery as well as the impact of Fascism on everyday design education and practice

Chiara Barbieri is post-doc researcher at HKB Bern University of the Arts in the research project ‘Swiss Graphic Design and Typography Revisited’. She holds a PhD in History of Design from the Royal College of Arts.
