I pomeriggi at Istituto Svizzero is a series dedicated to our Fellows. It is an opportunity for the public to learn more about the projects they are working on during this year’s residency.
The event is curated by Igor Cardellini and Grégory Sugnaux (Roma Calling 2022/2023).
MOSTRUOSƎ is an invitation to dwell in transgression. During the time of a Roman night, a path throughout poetry, performance and music seeks to revive our inner monsters, to question boundaries and normality. It is meant to unite freaks, faeries, beasts and demons in a celebration of hybridizations evading categorizations and kinship.

Francesco Bonizzoni (1999) lives and works in Milan, where he attended the Brera Academy of Fine Arts. His multidisciplinarity extends from sculpture to drawing and performance. His practice is based on a discourse of alchemical transformation of organic and non-organic materials, which combine to give life to crazy structures that take root in the imaginary metamorphoses typical of fantasy. It is necessary to invent stories that are always unmotivated and build his own non-binary cosmogony full of nonplayablecharacters to be reconfigured. Francesco is fascinated by the sensual image of the chimera, tears it to pieces and recomposes it.
Igor Cardellini (1983) lives in Lausanne and works in several European countries. He studied anthropology, sociology and political science at the University of Lausanne. He is a performance maker and works within the frames of the artistic collectives CARDELLINI | GONZALEZ since 2016 and Colectivo Utópico since 2019. His research focuses on power relations and the way performative situations allow their activation and subvertion. He collaborates with choreographers Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui, Jérôme Bel and the director Émilie Charriot. He writes for several Swiss newspapers and is a member of the Belluard Bollwerk festival committee. In Rome, through queer perspectives, he explores human monstruous figures and the political dimensions of the body, drawing inspiration from Roman statuary.
Sara Leghissa is an independent artist and performer based in Milan. Her practice takes place mainly in public space, through a principle of ecology of resources, using as much as possible of what is already available in reality. She creates systems and devices that seek to camouflage and blend in with the context, to convey images and content and to meet and intercept different audiences, through the use of accessible technologies linked to the ordinary. She co-founded the art project Strasse, has collaborated with various artistsə and collectives and has presented her work in Italian and international contexts and festivals. She co-organises for the Italian scene Nobodys Business, an independent platform for the exchange of practices in the performing arts; NESSUNO, a place to generate community and resistance through the practice of partying; and Una Sauna, a wooden room that contains the equipment to obtain high temperature dry air, an expedient to gather different communities of people around.
Hello Mimmi (Caterina Pelliccia, 2001) is a young Roman singer-songwriter who loves pink, cats and everything that belongs to the kawaii aesthetic. Her songs represent a spontaneous storytelling of the adventures (and misadventures) she lives in the enchanted village of her mind. The project, produced by beatmaker (and boyfriend) VillaHarcore is inspired by cartoon theme songs, declining them in an electronic and hyperpop key, a genre of which he is one of the main acts in Italy. However, the vision behind the project is not only linked to music; her naive and colourful aesthetic is in fact reflected in all her artistic expression: fashion, photography and graphics are fundamental elements in fully conveying her imagery. Defined by Rockit as one of the significant names of 2021 and by Rolling Stone as one of the most interesting prospects of 2022, she has played all over Italy since the release of her debut album MIMMIMANIA (vol.1), released in summer 2022 by Bomba Dischi. His new EP, Kara-oke, was released in March 2023.
Grégory Sugnaux (1989) lives and works in Fribourg. He holds a BA from EDHEA in Sierre and an MA from HKB in Bern. His work addresses the role of painting through the mediation of the exhibition system. Subverting existing pictorial codes, he rejects a certain heritage of values from the history of painting and seeks to develop alternative systems. In 2015, he received the Kiefer Hablitzel I Göhner art award and in 2019 he completed a residency at the Atelier Jean Tinguely at the Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris. Over the past two years, his works have been shown in numerous exhibitions in spaces such as Last Tango and suns.works in Zurich, Display in Berlin. From 2016 to 2020, he was co-curator of the independent space WallRiss in Fribourg. In Rome he pursues an investigation into monstrous figures through the creation of a new series of paintings and an artist’s book.
Alice Visentin (1993) lives and works in Turin where she graduated from the Albertina Academy of Fine Arts. Her practice includes painting, drawing and installations that originate from oral stories and literature. In particular, she draws inspiration from folk tales and tall tales and characters to create fantastic worlds that blend with the mountain traditions of her origins. His solo exhibitions include: Malefate, Progetto Almanacco, Turin (2021); Planète, Italian Cultural Institute, Paris (2021); Prima Persona Singolare, Tile Project Space, Milan (2017). Her works have been shown in numerous group exhibitions, including those at: Castello di Rivoli (2022); Fondazione CRC, Cuneo (2021); Museo MACTE, Termoli (2021); Palazzo delle Esposizioni, Rome (2020); Cité internationale des arts, Paris (2018). She won the International Collective Art Prize for the Castello di Rivoli Museo d’Arte Contemporanea, thanks to which her work Band of Flowers (Nocturne,2021) will become part of the museum’s permanent collection. She is a recipient of the Fondazione Sviluppo e Crescita CRT 2023 at the American Academy in Rome.
