Solo show by Nina Emge

For her solo exhibition in Palermo, Nina Emge is developing a new, expansive installation featuring sculptures, ceramic works, and large cotton textiles stretched on frames. The selection of materials is as significant to the artist as the associations and references they evoke, both literal and figurative: in the iron-forged sculptures we recognize tuning keys for various instruments, while the cotton cloths—hand-painted and embroidered with glass beads—also function as acoustic panels. On the ceramic works, we find quotes from songs by artists like Nina Simone and Prince. “Maybe,” Nina suggests, “we’ve just missed a concert in this room.” And perhaps the music is still here, embedded in the materials and sculptures themselves.

The Officine Bellotti have revitalized the industrial spaces of the historic De Magistris Bellotti stationery, located in the heart of Palermo. These spaces, now dedicated to cultural activities, are once again brimming with life, renewing their connection to the city.

Biography:
Nina Emge is a Zurich-based artist who reflects on the social dimensions of sound, voice, silence, and practices of listening. Her work is centered around issues such as decentralization, shared working methods, and redistribution. Nina is an active member of the Transnational Sound Initiative. She has exhibited at institutions including the Lagos Biennale, Kunsthalle Zurich, Kunsthalle Bern, Istituto Svizzero in Rome and Milan, Shedhalle Zurich, Halle für Kunst in Lüneburg, Frac Bretagne + Centre culturel suisse de Paris, Uferhalle Berlin, Kunstverein Braunschweig, WAF Vienna, Helmhaus Zurich, Kunsthaus Zurich, and other national and international institutions.
