Since 2025, Istituto Svizzero has demonstrated its commitment to supporting independent initiatives and artist-run organisations by inviting a different Swiss independent platform each year to curate an event within its public programme in Rome, Milan or Palermo.
In 2026, this commitment is renewed and expanded through an institutional collaboration with Pirelli HangarBicocca as part of the Milano Re-Mapped Summer Festival. Established in 2021 to support independent cultural organisations active in Milan, the festival is expanding for the first time this year through the involvement of Istituto Svizzero in the selection of the invited organisations.
Three Milan-based associations – Associazione Circolissimo, Edizioni Brigantino and Armonika – have been invited by Pirelli HangarBicocca to curate three segments of the festival, while La Rada, based in Locarno, has been invited by Istituto Svizzero to curate the programme for the festival’s second evening.
This collaboration continues Istituto Svizzero’s series of projects dedicated to independent spaces, launched last year with Helvetropicos: Time is on my side, a programme of performances and screenings presented at the Botanical Garden of Palermo by Helvetropicos, a collective of artists based in Switzerland who share an affective genealogy with Latin America.
The series aims to highlight the vital role that independent initiatives and self-organised artist collectives play in shaping the contemporary art landscape. Through this programme, Istituto Svizzero provides these organisations with an institutional platform, inviting them to contribute to its public programme while supporting the development of their research and practice.
The Dark Side of the Moon
Réka Csiszér, Canale MILVA, Martina Rota, Rebecca Solari, Francesca Sproccati
Curated by Yimei Zhang for La Rada
The curatorial framework of the evening stems from the gravitational force that runs through The Dark Side of the Moon: a constellation of performances in which memory, myth, voice, and transformationorbit without ever settling into a single form. Like the moon, which is held in a synchronous rotation that always shows the same face while receiving light on both sides, identities and languages also harbor invisible regions that are visible only through continuous shifts in perspective.
The programme opens with Cover by Canale MILVA, in which fairy tales break free from the confines of tradition through reinterpretation by female and feminist figures and perspectives, to become a sonic body and living matter to be traversed and reinvented. Martina Rota, Francesca Sproccati, Rebecca Solari and Réka Csiszér expand this unstable landscape through affective archives, imagined genealogies, vocal alter egos, and electroacoustic textures. Through choreography, sound, and ritual, The Dark Side of the Moon inhabits the shadow not as an absence of light but as a fertile space of resistance, desire, and possibility.

La Rada – Space for Contemporary Art is a non-profit cultural organisation founded in 1996 in Locarno, Switzerland, dedicated to contemporary art. The space consistently presents significant examples of emerging artistic practices from the local, national and international scenes. Over the course of nearly thirty years of activity, La Rada has continuously evolved, setting itself new and increasingly ambitious goals. Operating from the peripheral context of the Canton of Ticino, La Rada is committed to presenting and supporting practices that reflect developments in contemporary art both within Switzerland and beyond its borders. As part of its mission, the organisation regularly produces the works it exhibits and also acts as a producer of video and film projects. Through the continuity and perseverance of its activities, La Rada has established itself within the cultural landscape as a platform that fosters exchange and growth among Swiss artists, while maintaining a strong commitment to local practitioners and international artists alike. The La Rada team currently consists of Alessio Binda, Geo Quadri, Carolina Sanchez, Yimei Zhang, Stella Rosangela Kiyomi Spinedi and Mosé Melchiorre.
