Istituto Svizzero, in collaboration with the Library of the Accademia di Architettura, is pleased to present the book ‘Conversations on Architecture. Swiss Talks. About and Beyond’, published in collaboration with the publishing house Caryatide, with scientific curatorship by Francesca Chiorino and Federico Tranfa.
The book documents the Swiss Talks organized by Istituto Svizzero, focused on architectural relationships between Switzerland and Italy, and organized in collaboration with Casabella Formazione, curated and led by Federico Tranfa from 2017 to 2022, and by Francesca Chiorino since 2023.
‘Conversations on Architecture. Swiss Talks. About and Beyond’ was created with the aim of presenting a significant fragment of the Swiss Talks cultural project, which, since 2017, fosters dialogue between Swiss architectural culture in Italy by organizing public meetings in Milan, Rome, Palermo, and Venice.

Biographies
Ilyas Azouzi has been Head of Science, Research and Innovation at Istituto Svizzero since February 2025. A historian specialising in the political history and urban planning of Fascist Italy, his research has focused in particular on the architectural legacy of Italian colonialism. He holds a PhD in History from University College London (UCL), a Master’s degree in Art History from the University of Lausanne, and a Master’s in Architectural History and Theory from the Bartlett School of Architecture.
Francesca Chiorino (1978) is an architect, author, and curator. She studied architecture at the Istituto Universitario di Architettura di Venezia, graduating in History in 2003, and also studied at the Escola Tècnica Superior d’Arquitectura de Barcelona in Spain. Since 2005, she has been a member of the editorial board of Casabella, and in 2011 she founded her own architecture practice. She curates architecture conferences and events, and regularly publishes critical texts and essays in specialist journals and monographic volumes. Since 2023, she has been the curator of Swiss Talks.
Christian Sumi (1950) is Professor Emeritus of Design at the Accademia di Architettura in Mendrisio. He studied architecture at ETH Zurich, where he graduated in 1977. From 1978 to 1981, he worked at the German Archaeological Institute in Rome. In 1984, he founded his own practice in Zurich together with Marianne Burkhalter (Burkhalter Sumi Architekten). He is the author of numerous essays on modern Milanese architecture.
