Istituto Svizzero is pleased to present, in collaboration with the Academy of France and the Academy of Denmark, Viaggi nei paraggi, a project conceived and curated by Open House Roma. Each Academy will introduce a ‘creative’ voyageur whose life and works are somehow connected to Rome. An event with three different voices and at the same time connected by a single thread: three artists who, through their lived experience in Rome, transformed their relationship with the Eternal City into a pivotal moment one for the future development of their œuvre. With the aim of investigating the cultures of these three countries, the talk addresses topics such as the value of travel and cultural exchange in artistic production.

For the occasion Gioia Dal Molin, Head Curator of Istituto Svizzero, presents Swiss artist Hannah Villiger.

The work of Hannah Villiger (1951-1997) has a timeless quality and is very much linked to contemporary debates like representing gender and sexuality in images. Villiger, who understood herself more as a sculptor than as a photographer lived 1974/75 as a fellow artist at the Istituto Svizzero and worked in the Villa Maraini in a close exchange with the other fellows and the art scene of the city. A first solo exhibition in Italy will be presented at Istituto Svizzero in March 2021 with research materials that provide an insight into her work processes.

The talk will be held in Italian and can be followed via web.
