Once again this year, the Istituto Svizzero celebrates the winter solstice with a programme of performances and live sets in Milano, Palermo, and Roma.

In the Northern Hemisphere, the winter solstice coincides with the longest night of the year. For thousands of years, this astronomical event has been celebrated by pagan and non-pagan cultures alike, who welcomed the gradual return of longer days as a symbolic passage from darkness to light. Sol Invictus situates itself within this long history of shared rituals and ceremonies, paying homage to the longest nights of the year with a programme of performances, music, and sonic experimentation unfolding across the three Italian cities where the Istituto Svizzero is active. The title draws on the Roman legacy of Sol Invictus (“the unconquered sun”) and reinterprets it through new gestures, practices, and memories, transforming it into a shared tradition to be re-imagined together.

Performances:

Auguste de Boursetty and Alex Freiheit,
What will remain secret (30’)

Auguste’s secret dream is to one day be a singer in a band – this is one of the reasons that drew him to Alex. Together, they created What will remain secret: an underground invocation reviving the secrets from the playground, those hidden at the edge of the ears where they were spoken, just beneath the skin they made shiver, or between the patches of earth where they were buried.
Auguste and Alex no longer bear the names they were given at birth. In What will remain secret, they invite their children, those who no longer bear their names, to re-enchant their bodies. They sing to stir memories and dance to build sheds where they can rest.

lisa laurent, the wizard is not real (40’)

the wizard is not real is a poetic and grotesque journey through sadness and absurdity, an attempt to move through sorrow without freezing it. Soberly equipped with a microphone and a table, lisa laurent cries. What emerges is not a catharsis, but a raw landscape where emotion becomes sound, gesture, and rhythm. The performance unfolds like a failed symphony of sighs and silences, where fragility becomes a space for both humour and beauty. Through burlesque gestures and futile attempts at normality, lisa laurent exposes the tension between collapse and control, despair and lucidity.
the wizard is not real does not seek resolution. Instead, it lingers in the cracks – transforming discomfort and emotional overflow into fleeting moments of clarity, acceptance, and a more tender relationship with our limits.

Marara Kelly invites S.O TBD & Lorenzo Benzoni, Marara Kelly Live Show (45’)

Marara Kelly presents a live performance drawn from her debut EP Festa de outro mundo. Comprising five original tracks written by Marara and produced by Cigarra, this hybrid opus blends Brazilian funk, rock doido, breakbeat, and hyperpop. For the occasion, Marara Kelly invites S.O the Baddest Dame, who has been accompanying her recent shows; together they perform covers of Brazilian classics and provide backing vocals for each other’s original songs. They are joined by Lorenzo Benzoni, a Bergamo-based artist with whom Marara has been collaborating since 2020.

Auguste de Boursetty began by studying visual arts at HEAR in Strasbourg. He then moved to Lausanne to continue his studies in the Bachelor’s programme in dance at La Manufacture. He developed his work – mainly focused on dance, costume and a love of the Middle Ages – within the collectif Foulles, which he co-founded with three other artists: Délia Krayenbühl, Collin Cabanis and Fabio Zoppelli. Auguste also collaborates as a performer and costume designer with Alix Eynaudi, Nicole Seiler, Catol Teixeira, Vidal Bini, Régine Chopinot and Natasza Gerlach.

Alex Freiheit is the lead singer of the punk duo SIKSA. She is also a spoken word artist, actress and performer. Her writing practice oscillates between political realism/activism and magical realism rooted in fables, pop culture and childhood memories.

lisa laurent is an artist based in Geneva (CH). lisa’s primary medium is choreography. The work explores the representation of lisa’s own body through a lens of reflexivity and self-derision. With a particular interest in the tension between control and exposure, lisa engages in a continual dismantling of form – physical, emotional, and spatial. The performances present porous situations that question perception, heighten sensorial experience, and encourage deeper awareness and connection through acute emotion and vulnerability. lisa is the recipient of the Swiss Performance Art Award 2025.

Marara Kelly is a multidisciplinary Brazilian artist based in Geneva. Her practice crosses performance, visual arts and music within a research that explores the worlds of pop and kitsch, the figure of the pop star, and sacred and profane elements in celebratory events in Brazil: always questioning identity, the landscape, and contexts in which music is produced and disseminated, particularly in the world of parties and different nightlife scenes across the continents where she plays. Her musical research starts with the sounds of the Brazilian Amazon where she was born, and intersects with the baile funk of Rio, where she lived for several years.

S.O aka The Baddest Dame is the embodiment of Charisma, Uniqueness, Nerve & Talent — a fearless force blending Afro-Brazilian funk, R&B, rap, neo-soul, and K-pop into a genre-defying sound. Her lyrics radiate empowerment, sensuality, and freedom, reclaiming space and voice with every verse. After years of collective artistry, she’s now boldly charting her own path—unapologetically solo, and undeniably iconic.

Lorenzo Benzoni is a multidisciplinary artist. In 2024 he released Oleander, his debut musical project as Enz Benz, produced in collaboration with Komtsu San and characterized by EDM and trance influences. He is currently working on his first album under his own name, produced by Marlon. His current interests focus on post-club sounds, the UK scene, and post-reggaeton.

Isam (Sexisuxio) (he/they) is an ecuadorean artist based in Lausanne and your favorite gender-fucking-booty-shaking dancer, choreographer and DJ. From a constant state of missing reggaetón, he indulges in old school perreo, making it dialog with newer waves, and have fun with different remixes. All to open up the space for the effects/affects of music to take over the bodies. They like to slow it down and get diiiiirty. Or hype it up to finish the night with latin club, latin core and guaracheo.
