Connections between past and future: preservation and Innovation in photographic archives
In a world increasingly oriented towards the digital, Istituto Svizzero hosts an event dedicated to the central role of photographic archives in preserving our collective memory. These archives, ever-changing testimonies of history and social evolution, constitute a precious window into the past and significantly contribute to our understanding of the present.
During the event, industry experts will explore the challenges and strategies for preserving and promoting these heritages, with particular attention to experiences gained in Italy and Switzerland. Through the analysis of specific cases, the ways in which the digital transition has influenced the access and preservation of such valuable archives will be highlighted, focusing on mapping, cataloging, utilization, and mediation of content.
What is the impact of digitization on traditional photographic archives? How can digital technologies ensure that these heritages remain accessible and relevant for future generations? And how do the preservation and promotion of photographic archives contribute to strengthening identity and collective memory? These are some of the questions that will be addressed during the evening.
The event is organized by Osservatorio culturale del Cantone Ticino, Dipartimento dell’educazione, della cultura e dello sport – Divisione della cultura e degli studi universitari.
